Things to Do In Austin for December

Winter in Austin always brings about a chance to have some family fun. Whether you own an Austin home or are thinking about moving to the area and will be in town for a few days, take out some time for a little extra fun and relaxation. There is a multitude of family-friendly events in Austin to celebrate wintertime and spread some holiday cheer. Here are just a few of them.

Community Entertainment Stage
Starting Sunday, December 12th through Monday, December 20th, there will be a variety of performers at the Zilker Hillside Theatre. Performance times vary and the events are all held on the outdoor stage, so dress accordingly. Entertainers range from comedians to musicians to storytellers and more. It kicks off with the Champions Academy WAYA on December 12th at 5:30 p.m. Check out the City of Austin’s calendar of events for details.

Movie in the Park
The Austin Parks Foundation is sponsoring a Movie in the Park on Thursday, December 16th at 7 p.m. in Republic Square Park. It will feature two movies, “Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer” and “How the Grinch Stole Christmas.” This will be an outdoor event with concessions available.

New Year’s Celebration
Join the celebration to ring in the new year on Friday, December 31st from 5 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. at Auditorium Shores. The event is alcohol free, with music, food, films and other activities. The fireworks display begins at 10:15 p.m. Main Stage entertainment includes The Biscuit Brothers, Monter Falcon, Lannaya West African Drum & Dance Ensemble, Tje Austin and Charanga Cakewalk.
