If you are considering using solar power or making energy-efficient improvements to your Austin home, this summer might be a good time to make the change. There are currently several incentive programs that can be combined; one through the federal government, two through a local energy company.
Austin Energy, one of the power companies that serves our area, recently announced two energy-efficiency incentives for its customers. Austin homeowners installing a solar energy system will receive a 50-cent-per-watt bonus rebate. There is also a $200 bonus available for residents making Energy Star-approved whole-house improvements. Both programs end September 30, 2011.
There is currently a 30 percent federal tax credit available for eligible homeowners meeting certain energy-efficient requirements who install solar powered systems. This is also through the Energy Star Program and ends December 31, 2016.
Under both solar incentive programs, the larger the system installed, the higher the cost savings. For more information about federal government tax credits, visit the Energy Star website. For more information about the Austin Energy rebate, visit the company’s website.
