Home Improvement Tax Credit Deadline December 31st

The Energy Star federal tax credit program deadline for home improvement projects is quickly approaching. For those planning changes with energy efficient products, the deadline for many items is December 31, 2010.

The tax credit program features items which are energy efficient without compromising comfort, features and performance of the product itself.
This includes certain types of:

•    insulation
•    asphalt and metal roofing
•    non-solar water heaters
•    doors and windows
•    heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC).

The government wants homeowners to think green when they consider home improvement projects, so it is rewarding those who do so by the end of the year.

If you are planning on making home improvements before selling your Austin home or after buying one, first make sure you really need the work done and confirm that it qualifies. Before you agree to anything, be sure that you will be able to get a Manufacturer’s Certification Statement for the items you are about to purchase. Only certain items are eligible for the tax credit. There are other items that are eligible for the tax credit until 2016.

Visit the Energy Star website for details about the tax credit program.
