The next month will be a busy one, with lots of activities and events going on in downtown Austin. Two of the biggest are the triathlon on Memorial Day, followed two weeks later by our annual biker rally.
The Capital of Texas Triathlon, nicknamed the CapTexTri for short, will be held on Monday, May 28, 2012. The Memorial Day triathlon event features swimming, cycling and running throughout downtown Austin. More than 3,000 participants are expected. There are several individual races and events for various age groups and levels of athletes held as part of the event. They include the Race to the Toyota Cup series, USA Paratriathlon National Championship, the First Tri distance, Olympic distance, a Sprint distance, a Sprint Relay and Olympic distance relay, 1K Kids Run and Dog Duathlon and Dash.
The CapTexTri event kicks off with a swim at Lady Bird Lake, followed by a bike ride and through downtown Austin and a run that ends at Auditorium Shores.

The Republic of Texas (ROT) Bike Rally is just a few weeks away. It’s scheduled for Thursday, June 7 through Sunday, June 10, 2012. If you are a bike owner or enthusiast, enjoy the outdoors, are looking for an exciting weekend to visit Austin or are a local looking for something fun and different to do, the ROT Rally is for you. This event is the biggest motorcycle rally in Texas, with about 50,000 participants and a crowd of about 200,000 spectators for Friday night’s festivities. Austin closes 54 blocks for Friday’s party open only to people 18 and older.
The ROT Rally features a parade to the concert on Friday, June 8. The procession leavers the Travis Country Expo Center rally site at 7:30 p.m. The free concert in downtown Austin opens with 20 Shades taking the stage at 8:30 p.m., followed by the Jimi Berg Band and Omar and the Howlers. Saturday’s festivities at the Expo will include a bike show, custom bike builders, comedy and other entertainment, including Ted Nugent in concert.
